Kate Balsley was born into a family of artists in 1981. After deciding that filmmaking was what best suited her ambitions, she quickly found her niche at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Fine Art Film Program. She graduated with high honors in 2003, and after a brief period of time spent in New York City and Barcelona, she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.  Her experimental films and quirky narratives have been screened on five continents, and she has also presented her own research on cinema at the University of Cincinatti, San Francisco State University, and the University of Iowa. Kate also enjoys teaching film studies and has taught classes at Southern Illinois University, Chicago Filmmakers, Facets Multi-Media, and has spoken at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Currently, she is a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
